Reducing Gun Violence
Lindsey believes that gun violence has long been a critical issue facing Chicago and our nation that requires both doubling down on the root causes of violence while also providing targeted resources to law enforcement to focus on violent crime and the flow of illegal guns. The uptick in gun violence since March 2020 is devastating many families in Chicago, including survivor families that all too often don’t get case closures and healing.
Over the past few years in Springfield, Lindsey is proud to have fought for unprecedented investments in evidence-based anti-violence interventions like street outreach, trauma-based cognitive-behavioral therapy and transitional jobs in our neighborhoods that have been most impacted by violence and underinvestment. Lindsey has led groups of northwest side neighbors on visits to learn first hand about this research based anti-violence work while at the same time encouraging local participation in community building and CAPS meetings.
In Springfield, Lindsey is standing up to the gun lobby and leading the fight for common sense solutions to stop gun violence. She is fighting to ban ghost guns and to close dangerous loopholes in our background check system to keep guns out of the wrong hands.
Because of her commitment to commonsense gun safety measures and reducing violence, Lindsey earned the endorsement of the Gun Violence Prevention PAC, Giffords PAC, and Brady PAC.
